The business marketing landscape is changing day to day. As it does, it’s going to be more important than ever to keep up with those changes. 2014 has started out to be the year online video starts to really make it’s mark. With almost a little over a year under it’s belt, the video sharing app Vine is proving that it isn’t just a fad. So much so that Instagram followed suit almost immediately. We even saw the texting format change with the introduction of Snapchat. While the jury is still out on whether Snapchat will stick around, there is one unifying theme: people want video.

According to Google, there are 1 billion YouTube users. That’s one seventh of the world’s population. Additionally, studies find 50% of teens today say YouTube is their favorite webpage; and in 2013, Youtube was recorded the #2 search engine behind Google.

It’s no longer a question of IF your business should start using video in its day to day social outreach. The question is WHEN will you start?

Considering the fact that a business can start and operate a video channel (YouTube, Instagram, Vimeo, Vine, etc.) for free, it can be an inexpensive way to reach a lot of people. Most business owners probably have a smart phone which shoots full HD video. So, in theory, you could upload a video of your office and start broadcasting to the masses today.

Of course it’s not as simple as just shooting some video on your phone and posting it. Just because you post a video doesn’t mean that hundreds of thousands of people are going to come knocking at your door begging for your product or service. While this massive audience is accessible to you, it’s also accessible to anyone else with a web connection and a computer or phone. Competition for attention is insanely high and things are only going to get more difficult.

So how does a business rise above the social video noise and get their message in front of their customers?

I’m glad you asked!

Below you will find listed our four key ingredients to boosting engagement, building the business audience, and running a successful Social Video Campaign. We want to share this with you in the hopes that you can apply these four concepts to each video/post you make.

Creative – Creativity will be one of the major factors in ensuring your message stays relevant. Businesses will have to leverage the different social networks in different ways. A video that works on Facebook, might not necessarily work on LinkedIn or on Instagram.

Consistent – If there is one thing that has not changed, it’s that content and information needs to come consistently. A business posting one amazing video per year will be almost as irrelevant as a business not posting at all. However, there are literally thousands of people posting regularly scheduled videos with mediocre production value and seeing a positive response. Businesses will see exponentially more results from regularly posted content.

Compact – The message needs to be concise – a sound bite, if you will. With the addition of 6 second Vine videos and 15 second Instagram videos, we are seeing content becoming smaller and smaller. This can come at a benefit however. Businesses no longer need to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a single television commercial. They just simply need to produce hundreds of smaller videos.

Content – The final factor to making great video content will be the message itself. The content has to speak for itself and it has to be something that someone actually wants to watch. Businesses will fall horrifically short if they just push the traditional marketing “Pick Me! Pick Me!” message on the public over and over. If the message is good, people will share it. Be informative. Be funny. Be friendly. But most importantly, be about the people. Your message will only stand out if it adds value to everyday life.

While there are a myriad of other things that a business can focus on, take the time to generate posts with Creative, Consistent, Compact, Content.  You will see a noticeable improvement in the engagement and following from your audience and your audience will find real value in your information and ultimately your business.
